MANGO SEASON

BRIEF

AD asked for 10 unique spaces, each an ode to the mango season. For their ‘Mango Issue’, they wished to capture the essence of the mango, which brings simple joys, benevolence, and spurs random acts of kindness, like sending crates of mangoes to strangers (and we did indeed share the crates we had from the shoot). Extending the acts of kindness into the process wherein we brought in as many Brands as possible, each like a mango added to the project’s crate.

PROCESS

We turned to nostalgia to properly localise the Mango in our project. Memories of summers spent at Nani’s house, old family homes with contemporary furniture, and slow, unadulterated leisure were used to explore the idea of what Tropical is for local Indian folk. We then made 3D renders of each set to plan details and set a material palette of wood, cane, jute, fabric. 

SOLUTION

Curation and creation went hand-in-hand. Many brands were brought in to collaborate, for instance, fabric was sourced from Mumbai-based No-Mad, which was then upholstered onto an armchair by a Surat-based design studio, Thumb Impressions. We then added layers of storytelling through carefully positioned elements like harvested mangoes lying on the floor, a game of Aadu Huli in the courtyard. etc.
